Biomedical Interview in UKM

This is the third interview that I attended in this year. By the same way, I checked the interview offer via UKM website. I got two interview offers from UKM. The biomedical interview was held on 10am in Klinik Audiologi Dan Pendengaran UKM in KL while the pharmacy interview held on different date and location.

23rd May 2015

I woke up at 5am to prepare everything. After everything is done, my dad fetch me to KL. By the help of waze, we reach the place on 9am but didn't saw any building like a clinic or university. It was Taman Titiwangsa. Did we went to a wrong place? There were a lot of people jogging and cycling. I felt nervous and stomachache again. My father got off from car to ask the people around for the clinic and also the toilet. With the help of the people and also i called my friend to ask about the location, we reached the clinic.

After my father parked his car, i immediately go to toilet. The toilets were in the hostels of students. There were a lot of cats. The cats can be seen everywhere. I thought i was in a cats park. haha.. Although i reached there an hour before the time given to me, but a lot of students reached there and i saw a long queue at the registration counter. I was late again.. I found that the interview not only for biomedical course, it also included nutrition, audiology, dietetics and others course that related to health. Then i sat on the chair that provided and chat v my friends. my friend reached there around 7am, she got 5th number to be interviewed, while i got 88th. haha.. such a huge difference. After that, the clerk started to call the number to enter the interview room. They call 3 numbers once.. This interview was different, 3 persons enter one room and encounter 3 interviewers.

At 10am, finally it was my turn to enter the room, together with one malay guy and one indian guy. I was the first one in the room. Firstly, the interviewer called us to introduce ourselves. Then ask us why we want to choose our particular course. The malay guy came here for environmental health, while the indian guy and I came for biomedical science. Then, the interviewers ask us if we given other course that out of the course we came to interview will we accept it.After that, they asked us about our 1 achievement and 1 weakness. It was a short interview. It took around 10-15minutes. average 3-5 minutes for each student only. I wonder how they choose students for particular course. After the interviewer ended, we leave the room and the office.

Pharmacy Interview in USM Penang

8 May 2015

After checking through the USM website on 29th April 2015, I found that USM offer me pharmacy interview. This is my first choice! That time i was working at BBW book fair in Melaka. I was excited but somehow i feel lost because don't know what should be prepared and i need to work for 12 hours per day until 6th May the fair ended only can start doing research.I don't have much time to prepare.

On 7th May, my dad fetch us to Penang from Johor. It was a long journey. We started car by around 2pm. Along the way to Penang, we rested in the R&R for feeding our empty stomach and stretching our legs. We reached the hotel on 11pm after we having the dinner at the malay stall. The stall was near the Penang bridge. It sells tom yam soup dinner meals set.

The interview for the next day will be held on 2.15pm. I reached the university by 1pm. Then, I walk around there and also went to toilet due to i had butterflies in my stomach haha.. I was nervous that time. On 2pm, the clerk of pharmacy department came out from the office and pasted the namelist on the board that outside the office. I checked for my name, I was placed in room 3. Then we walked into the office to register. The clerks request us to queued up according the room number. Arghhh... I was too slow to queue up. I was the seventh students. I thought that we were already arranged and will be according the position that listed on the board. I was wrong.. The clerk also asked us to arranged our certificates file according the list that gave us.

After that, we were brought by the clerk to a room at the second floor of the office. The clerk gave us a briefing about the interview. Then, we just waited for her to call us to enter the room. Until 3pm, she just started to call the first student to enter the room. The first student was a Malay girls. She entered the room for around half hours. OMG... so long time.. we all felt panic. Then, the second candidate enter the room. Luckily she just entered for 15 minutes, haha.. At this time, i felt relief. Because if the interview took half an hour i really not much thing to talk about.

I sat the room until around 4.30pm.. Finally is my turn. I breathed in deeply and then knocked the door. There were 3 interviewers in the room. One Chinese male professor and another two Malay ladies. I was asked for submitting the photostatted document and show them the original document that i brought.

Firstly, they asked me to introduced myself. Then asked me:
1. why i choose pharmacy course
2. why i choose usm
3. how i came to usm
4. what is the name of the dean of the pharmacy school in usm
5. what talent that i had
6. what are the job for pharmacist (this was requested to answer in BM)

I was told by the interviewer that there were around 500 candidates attend the interview but only 115 students will receive the offer. It was an intense competition among the good students. Bear in mind that USM want the talented students but not only the nerds. So dont forget to tell the talent that u had when the interviewer asked you. Other than that, I found that only two STPM students among 14 students that being placed in room 3. Most of the students were Matric students. Thus, it showed that Matric students had higher chances to get this course than STPM students.

I took around 10 minutes for the interview. It was too short because i had not much thing to speak and not prepared. Therefore, it is needed to prepare and do a lot of research before attending an interview. Besides, remember to bring a bottle of water and had your meal before going to interview

After finishing interview, i called my family to fetch me back. Then, we started our trip in Penang.......
